Celestia TST and Celestia TTI, both from the Celestia Group, are entering the final stretch of SirocoPORTS4.0, a platform to digitalise ports and improve their operation, security and sustainability. The project, led by Celestia TTI and developed alongside Celestia TST, has been tested at the Innovation Exchange of the port of Huelva and is now ready for commercialisation.
SirocoPORTS4.0 is a modular and open solution that adapts to the reality of each port. It integrates the technologies that are already installed and incorporates new capabilities progressively, without replacing the existing ones. The platform brings together operational, environmental and security information in one place, and makes it available in real time to those who make decisions.
One of the developments provided by Celestia TST is a proprietary computer vision system, trained to recognise vessels in real conditions: by day and by night, in fog, rain, in port waters or in open sea. To achieve this, the team trained the model with nearly 90,000 images from the port of Santander, until it could identify and track ships with high reliability and in real time. When it detects a vessel entering without identification, it marks it as unauthorised traffic and issues an alert.
To bring that technology to the real port, Celestia TST has aligned its developments with the infrastructures that already exist in port environments and integrated the system with the image capture equipment from Hikvision. Thus, the solution works on the cameras that the port already has installed or incorporates new ones to complete the deployment. This collaboration has been facilitated by proximity: Hikvision inaugurated an innovation centre in 2025 at the Xtela Tower of the Scientific and Technological Park of Cantabria (PCTCAN), the same park where Celestia TST and Celestia TTI are based.
All that information converges in a visualisation tool and aids decision-making in port security, on which the rest of the project's technologies rely: IoT sensors, location systems, meteorological data, and AIS information of maritime traffic. The integration is made possible by an intelligent hub developed by Celestia TTI, which connects the distributed LoRaWAN sensors with the port's data infrastructure.
SirocoPORTS4.0 covers five major applications: the management of maritime traffic within the port, occupational safety, environmental monitoring, support for docking manoeuvres, and intelligent asset management. It started as an R&D project and has reached a level of technological maturity that allows for its operational deployment in ports.
The project has been developed within the Ports 4.0 programme of Ports of the State, co-financed by the PORTS 4.0 Fund of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda. In addition to Huelva and Seville as facilitating ports, it has sparked interest from Alicante, Algeciras, Santander, and Las Palmas.
"A camera without analytics sees, but does not understand," explains Raúl Arnau, technical manager at Celestia TST. "With embedded AI, the system detects a crowd in a risk area, a heat source, or an unidentified vessel, and generates an alert before the operator has had to look. That is what SirocoPORTS4.0 brings."
